On most operations, checking water means driving the property, tank by tank, dam by dam, trough by trough, and hoping nothing's gone wrong since the last loop. A stuck float, a cracked line, or a dam dropping faster than expected can cost real money and put stock at risk before anyone notices.
Meterra replaces the loop with a sensor. The structure behind the name: the two of us, Britain Sorensen and Adam Overholser, bought an ownership stake, together, in the Australian engineering company that designs and builds this platform, after it had spent years proving itself across rural Australia. Then we founded Meterra Systems to roll it out across the US. So we're not resellers working through a catalog; we're part-owners of the company that builds the hardware, with its engineers and IP behind every US install.
We use what we sell. Meterra sensors run across our founders' own properties, right down to the salt tank on Britain's home water softener, which hasn't run empty since. That's the standard: gear we trust on our own places before we put it on yours.
The name is the mission: Meterra comes from metering terrain, putting a reading on everything the land holds. That's why the product line doesn't stop at water: tanks, troughs, and dams, but also rainfall, soil, fence lines, fuel, feed, and the pumps and valves that tie them together.
We're a US company focused on rural America: ranchers, farmers, fire districts, water systems, and the supply businesses that serve them. If it holds water, feed, or fuel, we want to make it something you can check from your phone and, where it helps, something that runs itself.
The business we're actually in
Our prices run low and they are posted in public, and we want to be plain about why. It is not because the gear is lesser. The same platform has spent more than four years in the field with 2,000+ devices in service, and it runs on our own places. The price is set where it is because of what a high price does: it turns monitoring into a luxury, and a ranch ends up choosing which tanks deserve watching. Keep the price low and the whole property reports in. We chose that business on purpose. We could charge far more for what this does. We would rather have your trust for the next twenty years than your margin on one sale. The people this is built for feed this country every day.
