Know your softener's salt level without lifting the lid.
An ultrasonic sensor that mounts in the brine tank lid, reads the salt surface, and alerts your phone before you run out. It uses the Wi-Fi your house already has — so there's no monthly fee.

The quiet chore that stops being yours
A water softener only asks one thing of you: keep salt in the brine tank. And because the tank sits in a utility room nobody visits, the usual “monitoring system” is hard water, spotted glasses, and a crusty showerhead telling you that you forgot — weeks ago. This sensor ends that. It mounts in the brine tank lid, reads the salt surface with the same non-contact ultrasonic sensing our tank sensors use on ranches, and sends your phone the level and a low-salt alert in time to do something about it.
It started at home for us: one of Meterra’s co-founders runs this exact setup on his own softener, and it’s the reason the product exists — it turned salt from a thing to remember into a notification that shows up when it matters.
Why there’s no monthly fee
Meterra’s field sensors report over cellular because that’s what works where there’s no Wi-Fi for miles — and cellular service is what our connectivity plans pay for. A softener doesn’t have that problem; it lives inside your house. The Wi-Fi model rides the network you already have, so the $375 posted price is the whole cost of ownership. Same app, same alerts, no plan.
If the water on your place needs watching beyond the softener — wells, storage tanks, pressure systems, pumps — the reading lands in the same app as the rest of the Meterra ecosystem, and everything can work together from there.
An alert instead of a lid ritual
Nobody remembers the brine tank until the water goes hard. The sensor watches the salt level for you and sends a phone alert while there's still time to grab bags on the next trip to town — not after the shower feels wrong.
Buy it once — no subscription
Our field sensors run on cellular because pastures don't have Wi-Fi. Your utility room does. This model rides the network you already pay for, so the posted price is the whole price — no monthly connectivity fee.
Works with any softener
It reads the distance to the salt surface from the lid, so the brand and shape of your softener don't matter — pellets or crystals, tall tank or squat one.
Same app as the whole ecosystem
The salt reading lands in the same Meterra app as our tank, well, and pump monitoring — start with the softener, and the app is ready if the rest of the place ever needs watching.
Mount it in the lid
Fix the sensor in the brine tank lid pointing down at the salt — a simple DIY job.
Join your Wi-Fi
The app walks it onto your home network in a few minutes. No hub, no extra hardware.
Watch it on your phone
Live salt level, history, and a low-salt alert at the threshold you choose.

What does it cost?
The Water Softener Salt Sensor is $375, and that's the whole cost — it includes the sensor and full access to the dashboard and mobile app, with no monthly fee, because it reports over your home Wi-Fi instead of a cellular plan. Like every Meterra sensor, it's backed by our 60-day money-back guarantee and a one-year warranty.
Will it work with my softener?
Yes — brand doesn't matter. The sensor mounts in the brine tank lid and reads the distance to the salt surface below it, so any softener with a lidded brine tank works, whether you load pellets or crystals.
How does it know the salt level?
It measures the distance from the lid to the top of the salt and turns that into a fill level with history and a low-salt alert. One honest limit — it reads the surface. If your softener forms a salt bridge (a hard crust that holds its shape while the salt underneath dissolves away), the surface can read higher than what's really left. Salt bridges are worth breaking up regardless — they stop the softener working — and once broken, the reading is true again.
Do I need strong Wi-Fi at the softener?
Ordinary home Wi-Fi that reaches the utility room is all it takes. If your softener or salt storage sits somewhere Wi-Fi doesn't reach — a well house, a barn, a treatment shed — ask us about the cellular version of the same sensor instead.
Why is this one Wi-Fi when your other sensors are cellular?
Because of where it lives. Our field sensors are cellular so they work three pastures from the nearest router. A water softener sits inside your house, where Wi-Fi is already paid for — so this model uses it, and you skip the monthly connectivity fee entirely.
